2018 was a big year for me! I was officially declared as Dr Sarah Gray after graduating with my degree in Medicine & Surgery. I am definitely much more colourful than most doctors, but that’s something I’m proud of & advocate heavily for. Just because we have colourful skin in no way defines us, nor makes us any less capable of doing any task at hand. I aspire to be an orthopaedic surgeon & am currently working on some paediatric research looking at developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in newborn babies so that’s an amazing opportunity I’ve been given. I got married to my soul mate Bumer in Vegas early last year (by Elvis of course) & we have just opened our very own private tattoo studio "The Grim Raptor" @thegrimraptor.
Tell us about your tattoos; do you have a favourite and do you have a preferred style or artist?
My tattoos are beginning to become more of a cohesive canvas instead of individual pieces now, with well over 300 hours of tattooing so far. I have an appreciation for all the styles of tattooing but personally my favourites are colour realism and neotraditional.
I have about a 50/50 split on my body between these two styles & have tried to collect pieces that compliment each other. I don’t have just one favourite tattoo as they all have either sentimental meanings to me (like my love of all things horror, or cheese...or Nicholas Cage haha) or have been designed with artistic freedom after I approached the tattooist as a collector.
My talented husband Matt @tattoosbybumer has done some of my favourite realism pieces, but it would be too hard to pick just one!
Why do you think you should be the next Australian Sullen Angel?
That’s such a hard question to answer as any of the beautiful finalists are all equally as deserving to be the next Angel! I’m just a colourful girl, trying to leave a positive footprint in people’s lives. I’m proud of who I am & what I’ve achieved to get to where I am today as a doctor, model, tattoo studio owner & wife. I’d love the humbling opportunity to represent tattooed Australian women as a Sullen Angel and to show the world that you really can be anything you want to be if you work hard, are determined & want it bad enough!
